WWDC 2009: 3rd generation iPhone graphical rumor round-up

Picture 3

TGR WWDC 2009 iPhone graphic rumor round-up

Here’s a graphical representation I put together of the dozens of rumors that have been circulating over the past few months regarding the third generation iPhone that’s likely to be announced next week at WWDC 2009 (our keynote liveblog details can be found here). Click the image for a higher resolution version. There’s a few notes for this one:
* I’ve put some source numbers beside each arrow, these are the references for each rumor and are published at the bottom of this post.
* The rumors (such as release date and price) that don’t really match a particular part of the iPhone’s hardware/software have been placed at a random point on the back of the iPhone.
* The prediction key is based entirely on my own opinion, and is by no means accurate.
Of course, if anything else develops between now and Phil’s keynote, I’ll be listing them here, so be sure to check back before the day, and remember, we’ll be covering the keynote live right here on TGR, click here for the details. – r.

Update: It seems this has generated quite some interest around the internet with more than 10,000 people visiting per day – thanks for your views, tweets and pings!

Update 2: The great folks over at iPodizados.com have translated the graphic into Spanish. Check it out here!

Wallpaper Weekend: iPhone Spark

iPhone sparks

Here’s the first (and last) iPhone 3G wallpaper I’m making before Phil Schiller and the team (are likely to) unveil a new iPhone at WWDC this year (our live keynote coverage is here). Either way, I’ll make sure I create an updated version with the third generation iPhone when it arrives, and until then, download and enjoy this one! Click on the thumbnail for the 1920×1200 copy. – r.

P.S. If you’d like to buy me and the other editors at TGR something on the Apple Menu, feel free to donate by clicking the link in the sidebar to your right…

We’re back!

were_back_a_dinosaurs_story_ver1.jpg

What’s been going on around here for the last week or two? What happened to the regular posts? Has the GFC affected The Green Room?
Questions you may all have since our last post 10+ days ago. We probably should’ve told you, but we took a short break from writing last week and focused on some other stuff, which we’ll tell you more about soon. That said, we’re back now and all is under control at tgrblog.com, so keep visiting and look out for our WWDC 2009 coverage which will begin soon! – r.

Wallpaper Weekend: App Store Reflections

App Store Reflections

Guess what? I’ve made another wallpaper. This one’s just for you iPhone/iPod touch owners out there, and it’s available in 320×480 from our Flickr account (or you can just click above). – r.

“Runway Pixels”

runway-pixels-desktop

This is a wallpaper I’ve been putting together over the last couple of days. I made a 1920×1200 desktop wallpaper and a 320×480 iPhone wallpaper. You can download the folder with both of them in full size here, they’re also on our Flickr account here. – r.

HTML Safari buttons

safarithinkdifferent thegreenroomuses

I love using Safari. In my humble opinion, it’s the best browser out there. It’s got a beautiful user interface and it runs faster than the rest. This morning I made a few HTML buttons that can be placed on your blog or site, so if you’re like me, go ahead and paste the code below into your Safari window. There’s two styles; one reads ‘we still think different’ while the other can be customized to the name of your blog or site, as shown on the right (above). Leave the name in the comments section and I’ll hopefully be able to get one back to you in a few days.

For the button shown on the left (above), simply copy and paste this code into your editor:

<a href=”http://tgrblog.com/2009/04/27/html-safari-buttons/”><img class=”alignnone”
title=”Safari Think Different”
src=”http://thegreenroomblog.files.wordpress.com/
2009/04/safarithinkdifferent.png”
alt=”" width=”225″ height=”120″ /></a>

And once again, leave a comment with site/blog name for a customized button. – r.

Have you downloaded YOUR free adware?

picture-12

Now there’s an offer I simply cannot resist.
Don’t waste your time looking for unofficial adware – get the 2009 edition for free at the #1 rated site with over 47 million 100% guaranteed downloads!

Rant of the week: Mac Geek Blog

picture-11

While this series has seemingly become the one of the more increasingly occasional, I thought I’d take some time to rant about the MacGeekBlog. First of all, they’re jerks. What kind of site sells cracked copies of the iPhone 3.0 beta then promotes it by telling unsuspecting potential customers that it’s a saving? It would be like The Pirate Bay selling music cheaper than iTunes – but they don’t, because the music is pirated. That’s the trade-off when you download illegally. Yes, it’s free, but it’s also illegal. MacGeekBlog seems to think it’s a great idea to make people buy illegitimate copies of software.

Secondly, who puts pop-ups on their site? Even more annoyingly, who puts pop-ups on their site that avoid the Safari pop-up blocker? Who, I ask you, who? I got ten pop-ups on my desktop just by browsing fourteen MGB pages. I’d be better off with Zango installed on a damn PC. To add insult to injury, they’re for those IQ Tests that everyone – repeat - everyone hates.

Sites such as these are a waste of space and bring a bad name to the Mac community. Please, I’m begging you – clean yourselves up. – r.

A few thoughts (and predictions) on American Idol

americanidolout

While I do fear that a fair few of my fellow TGR bloggers will find it difficult to even read this post, I thought I’d share my thoughts on American Idol and give my official predictions for 2009. I began watching American Idol regularly last year, and despite my incorrect tip for David Archuleta, I’d like to think that my predictions are generally quite accurate. Followers of the show will know that Matt Giraud was voted off from the show earlier today (after guest Quentin Tarantino mentored the Top 7 on the previous night), but was saved by judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell at the last minute, which means two contestants will be eliminated next week.

6th/7th: Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai tick TGR Prediction correct!
5th: Matt Giraud tick TGR Prediction correct!
4th: Danny Gokey
3rd: Kris Allen
2nd: Allison Iraheta
1st: Adam Lambert

I do agree with The New York Times’ winner prediction, because it appears Adam’s popularity gets bigger and bigger every week. He is also a very talented singer and entertainer. Allison is also very talented, and I feel Paula’s “special sauce” comment (while somewhat tenuous) is accurate. Kris I feel has also gained a large fan base and his videos certainly show him as a down to earth and experienced individual. He is certainly very marketable, which, honestly speaking, is really what the show’s about. I’ve placed Danny Gokey at fourth in the competition because I feel he has become a little predictable, and while he is a very good singer, does get lost amongst Allison and Adam. I agree with the judges’ decision to save Matt but I also believe that fifth is an appropriate place for him, and something to be very proud of (especially considering he was only given a place after the Wild Card show). Meanwhile, I really consider Rounds’ and Desai’s performances to be quite lacklustre in the past fortnight, and this will lead to their removal after the Disco theme next week. – r.
