How to: Access iPhoto 09′s music without iPhoto open

One of the more useful features of iLife ’09 is the ability to make slideshows in iPhoto to show your friends and family, accompanied by the music of your choice. Apple also includes five popular songs within the iPhoto application that you can choose to include with your slideshow. Here’s the thing – it’s surprisingly easy to copy these songs onto your desktop without any copy restrictions and at near iTunes Plus quality (192kbps). This makes it possible to add these songs to the media player of your choice.

You’ll be needing a Mac with iPhoto ’09 installed, and that’s about it.
Note: Don’t stress if some of the buttons and scroll bars look a little different. I’m using a theme for Mac OS X called iLeopard.

First up, open iPhoto, select a few photos from your library and click ‘Slideshow’ from the + button located in the bottom left corner of the window. Then choose Slideshow and give it a name (shown above). Click ‘Create’.

Click on the iTunes icon titled ‘Music’ in iPhoto to open up the window shown above. From there, it’s as simple as dragging the tracks from that window to your desktop or folder. You can even drag directly from the music options window to iTunes, complete with song name and artist information.

iPhone wants Flash to play nice

picture-4

Adobe CEO, Shantanu Narayen has revealed that Apple will be teaming up with Adobe to make Flash for the iPhone. The iPhone friendly version will not be as watered down as the ‘lite’ version but it also cannot be as resource-heavy as the desktop version. Apple and Adobe have not put a date on the completion of the product but Adobe’s CEO said that he was “pleased with progress” as far back as June of last year.

Windows 7 Retail Versions leak, similar to Windows Vista

tgr-windows-7-confusion

Hear that? It’s the sound of Déjà vu. Microsoft’s latest version of Windows will sell in five different retail versions – just like Windows Vista. According to a screenshot leak, Windows 7 will ship in five different packages – Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate. There’s no word yet on pricing but I imagine it will also be similar to that of Vista’s.

P.S. My apologies for the extremely poor Photoshopping. I’ll push out a better version in a moment. – r.

Happy 25th Birthday Macintosh!

It was on this day, 25 years ago that Steve Jobs introduces the first macintosh computer (pictured above). The Macintosh was the first successful computer to use a graphical user interface and a mouse. Happy birthday.

We’ve seen why 2009 isn’t like ’1984′

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the Macintosh, accompanied originally by what is perceived to be one of the greatest advertisements of all time.

Even if their 1985 Super Bowl spot (for ‘Macintosh Office’, a product that wasn’t put on shelves until several years later) entitled ‘Lemmings’ was a complete failure, it’s worth revisiting, so hit ‘Read More’ for the embedded clip. – r.

2008 Presidential Candidates are first to both be Mac users

Somewhere in between all the hype of Obama being the first African American and first Hawaiian President of the United States, we all seemed to forget that Barack Obama is also the first president to be a Mac user.

However, the Obamas weren’t the only presidential candidates in 2008 to use a Mac. John McCain’s daughter Meghan was featured in this month’s copy of GQ with her trusty MacBook Pro.

In fact, even the Vice Presidential candidates are almost all Mac users. Democrat Joe Biden has been pictured using an iPhone on several occassions, but Sarah Palin was recently spotted using a Dell notebook. Then again, that’s probably more of a good thing. – r.
